Twenty years ago I would have thought it cranky and absurd to go vegetarian – let alone vegan. I enjoy eating and have never really accepted Valère’s dictum1 “Il faut manger pour vivre et non pas vivre pour manger”. However, I have been concerned at the growing consensus that our (especially western) diet is disrupting the ecology of the planet and exacerbating climate change. So what should I do about it?

Should I give up on the Labour Party?
I joined the Labour Party in 1962, and it has been part of my life for almost 60 years. During that time I have been a loyal member, canvassing for the Labour candidate at elections, delivering leaflets, stuffing envelopes, knocking on doors and carrying out almost every Party office except that of MP. Yet, after 60 years, I am seriously considering resigning.
